Outdoor Learning & Education
Duke of Edinburgh
Outdoor UK works with schools and youth groups to deliver their Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) provision and facilitate an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development for young people.
We can provide all or individual elements of your DofE provision, from delivering classroom-based training to assessment of the young people participating in the expedition section of the award. We work at all levels of the award from Bronze to Gold, and work flexibly to meet your establishment and group requirements.
We can facilitate:
Training: this usually takes place at a venue close to your school and involves preparing the participants for their up-coming qualifying venture. We cover topics such as navigation, camp craft, cooking and equipment.
Practice journey: We work to ensure groups get the full benefit from practice journeys, which are fantastic opportunities to further develop the skills learnt during training.
Our trainers spend time consolidating existing skills and providing last minute skills updates, and from there the group heads out alone, whilst instructors continue to provide monitoring, safety and feedback.
Assessed expedition: We work alongside your students to help chose the most appropriate destinations for their assessed expedition. The award is designed to challenge each individual, and their choice of destination should reflect this. Once a choice is made, we work with you to prepare the groups and can provide both assessors and supervisors.
