Manual handling is defined at the transportation, movement or supporting of a load including lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving any load by hand or bodily force.
From the above definition it is easy to see that during an average working day most of us will perform some sort of manual handling movement, be that lifting a box of paper from the top shelf in the stationery room to moving heavy products in the workshop.
This course is designed to provide all delegates with a thorough working knowledge of manual handling techniques and the principles behind these, to allow them to go back into their own workplace and perform a risk assessment of their current practices and implement changes in line with the techniques they will now have.
The course will cover topics including:
• The law
• Responsibilities within the workplace – Managers, supervisors and employees
• Safer lifting and handling techniques – Practical session
• Identifying lifting and handling areas within your workplace and discussing appropriate techniques
• Risk assessment of current manual handling practices
